May 20, 2018

President, Ed Hetzel called meeting to order at 11:00 a.m.

Minutes from September 2017 meeting were read and approved.


Treasurer’s Report read by Ed Hetzel:

Checking:           $14,462.60

Dam Checking   $11,032.44

Savings               $22,658.10

Total                   $48,253.11


Paid Memberships: 38 to date, including eight new members. Dues are needed to pay for ongoing expenses, such as Annual Dam Fee of $1,500 due on July 1, 2018.


Lake Carey Day is scheduled for Saturday, July 28, 2018.

Sewer Update: Questionnaires were mailed by the townships to all lake residents. Forms are used to determine best placement for the grinder pumps. Ed available to help determine best placement.

Proposed Schedule: Estimate of costs by June 30, 2018. Final estimate by October or November of this year.  Penn Vest loan application early 2019. Start-up of sewers May 2020.

Grinders will be placed six feet underground and will not be heard. Land for the treatment facility has been identified, but not purchased until funding is approved. Existing septic tanks will need to be pumped out and filled with gravel after sewers are activated. Water, gas and electric lines will not be installed with the sewer lines.

Dam: The new design is almost completed. Dr. Givler is also working on an Emergency Action Plan for the dam. Ed made a motion to authorize a payment to Dr. Givler for $6,400. Motion was approved.

Growing Greener: We received a $75,000 grant to treat the lake with alum. Treatment should be good for three to five years. The islands moved during the winter. Ed will re-anchor and position them.

There was discussion of Milfoil Weed and best way to treat it. Ed will look into possible funding for the LCWA to undertake treatment.

Ed reminded residents that nitrogen only fertilizers are the only acceptable fertilizer for use at the lake.
