Lake Carey Welfare Association Meeting

September 2, 2018

President Ed Hetzel opened the meeting at 11:05 a.m.


August 2018 minutes were read and approved.


Treasurer’s Report was presented by Treasurer, Deb Tierney

Checking (General):  $20,522.26

Checking (Dam)            $1,674.48

Savings                        $22,669.39

Total:                         $44, 86.13


Lake Carey Day Profit: $3,418.64 (Funds will be moved to the Dam Account after the funds that were loaned to the Dam Fund from the General Fund are returned.

Membership: 96 paid memberships have been received to date. (Deb will send oops cards out in September.) The 2017 membership total was 112.

Deb sold raffle tickets before the meeting to benefit the Dam Fund. (The winner of the raffle was Barbara Scanlon who won $20.50.)

Ginny Tinner reported that there are still a few clothing items left over from LCD and are available for sale.

Sewers: The Authority is still negotiating for the purchase of the land. The sale cannot be completed until the design is finalized. The estimate for homeowners to be connected from the pump to the system is $3,000.  Authority meetings are held the first Thursday of every month at the Tunkhannock Township Building and are open to the public.

Dam Fund: A committee has been formed to raise funds for the dam. The first meeting followed the September 2 LCWA meeting. The committee is also working on attaining 501 (C) 3 non-profit status for the Dam Fund. Volunteers are welcome.

Weeds: Ed reported that he is not sure how well the tablets discussed at the last meeting will work. He will look into other chemical treatments, such as Rodeo and Reward. The cost to treat the small lake is approximately $18,000.
