Lake Carey Cottagers Association Meeting Sunday, June 13, 2010

President Alan Thatcher called the meeting to order. The minutes were read. There was some disagreement regarding the $7,500.00 that was approved to be spent by Princeton Hydro. Was the money for soil samples or review of the Act 537 plans for both townships. After the discussion the minutes were approved as read. Chris Ziemba requested that the minutes be sent to him so he can post them on the website. The secretary will send them to him.

There was no treasurers report.

The secretary reported that we have 53 paid memberships to date. Kathy Keefe wanted to know if we were going to give out the stickers again. Pat Bernet stated that they came from Scranton Label and cost $500.00.

Committee Reports

Water Quality

Ed Hetzel reported that he tested the lake water a few weeks ago and the test was good. He will be testing again in the near future. The Growing Greener Grant came in and we will be putting in the catch basins in several locations around the lake. A question was raised as to how often the pads will need to be replaced. Princeton Hydro and Ed Hetzel will monitor them and replace when needed. Minturn Smith asked what is the cost for this maintenance and is it the responsibility of the Association. Ed Hetzel will get the figures and report to the Association in July.

Advisory Committee

Princeton Hydro reviewed the data on the septic survey that was done and he will make a report to the Association in the future.

Dam Report

Ed Hetzel reported that the dam was recently inspected and there are no major problems. DEP wants a tree cut down. Chuck Givler is working with DEP on some minor work that needs to be done. This work could be done by an association work party under the guidance of Chuck. A notice will go out on the website when that date and time has been set up.

Lake Carey Day

Gene Skrynski reported that Borderline is back together and will play for the dance. He needs to talk to the chairman of the different events to make sure they are still willing to organize them. He asked for help with distributing the brochure.

Dick Daniels reported that the 10K, 5K walk run is all set up and he has applications. The winner of the Frank Valvano scholarship this year was a summer resident of the lake, John Gibbons. The scholarship was $1500.00.

Alan brought up the issue with giving out alcoholic beverages from the docks for the Poker Run.. He feels that this is a liability to the Association. Dick Daniels stated that the Run is covered for liability by USA Track and Field.

Some members felt this should be added to the by-laws, a motion was made to add: The Lake Carey Welfare Association, its members or its agents will not serve any alcoholic beverages to the participants of water activities and/or the Poker Run on Lake Carey Day. The motion was made by John Fassett and seconded by Paul Beane. The motion carried.

Old Business

Due to differences of opinions among the membership, it was decided to hold a special meeting to talk about the Associations stand on backing no sewers before zoning. The meeting is set for July 3, 2010 at 10:00am at the Dam Site.

The tax exempt status has gone through. Many thanks to Walter Broughton for his hard work. The Association needs to file with the IRS by April 15th what our income is. This is not complicated, just a postcard. We may have to file a 990 for the first year.

A question was raised as to the status of the road names around the lake. The responsibility for this lies with the Postal Service and the Townships.

New Business

The Nominating Committee will have a slate of officers for the August Meeting.

Alan asked for a volunteer to take over the newsletter as Debbie Tierney has resigned. He recognized her hard work and a round of applause was given by the membership.

Due to a heavy rainstorm and not being able to hear what anyone was saying, the meeting was adjourned at 11:45pm

Respectfully submitted,

Patty Skrynski, Secretary
